Questions people ask

Is this calculator free?

Yes. There's nothing to sign up for, and everything you type is worked out in your own browser, so it never leaves your device.

How up to date are the fees?

Every fee was last checked against the platforms' own pages on 4 Oct 2026. When a platform changes its fees, the calculator is updated and the change is added to the fee change log on this page.

Why does the buyer pay more on some platforms?

Vinted, eBay and Depop add a fee on top of your price that the buyer pays. It doesn't come out of your money, but it changes what the buyer sees, so each result shows what the buyer pays as well as what you keep.

What does “I want to keep…” do?

It works backwards. Tell it how much you want to end up with, and it shows the price to list at on each platform, ranked by what the buyer would pay in total.

How this is worked out

  • Vinted: no selling fee. The buyer pays postage and a Vinted fee (called the Buyer Protection fee until 8 Oct 2026), typically about 5% + £0.70. Vinted
  • eBay UK: free for UK private sellers selling in the UK. Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee of £0.75 + 4% of the price up to £300 (2% from £300 to £4,000). Business sellers pay a final value fee that depends on the category (10.9% for most, 11.9% for clothing, shoes and home), plus £0.30 or £0.40 per order and 0.35%, with 20% VAT on fees unless VAT registered. eBay private, eBay business
  • Depop: no selling fee for UK sellers, but payment processing of 2.9% + £0.30 on item price plus postage. A sale from a Boost costs another 12% of the item price. Buyers pay a fee of up to 5% + £1. Depop
  • Etsy: £0.16 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, 4% + £0.20 processing and 0.48% regulatory fee on item plus postage, then 20% VAT on fees unless VAT registered. Offsite Ads add 15%. Only handmade, vintage (20+ years) and craft supplies are allowed. Etsy
  • Vestiaire Collective (shown when you tick "Designer or luxury brand"): 12% selling fee between £83 and £16,667, a flat £10 below £83 and £2,000 above, plus 3% payment processing (minimum £3). Fees include VAT. Minimum price £14. Items are authenticated before the buyer gets them. Vestiaire
  • Gumtree: modelled as local collection, which is free for most listings. Optional paid promotion is not included.
  • Facebook Marketplace: modelled as local collection with cash or bank transfer, which is free. Shipped checkout sales carry a fee that we haven't been able to confirm for the UK, so they're not modelled.
  • Selling regularly to make a profit makes you a trader in law. Use a business account where the platform requires one, and note that platforms report seller income to HMRC once you pass 30 sales or about £1,700 a year.
